Crypto-grade fair randomness.How it works
What is the Random Date Generator?
A random date generator returns a calendar date chosen at random from a range you define. Set a start and an end, or use a preset like this year or 1900 to today, and every date in that window has an equal chance of being selected. Unlike picking a day off the top of your head, a true random date picker has no hidden bias toward round numbers, recent months, or the middle of the range. This tool goes further than most: you can generate many dates at once with no duplicates, keep only weekdays or only weekends, exclude specific days of the week, switch the output between ISO, US, European, long-form and Unix timestamp formats, and export a single result straight to your calendar as an .ics file. A mode selector lets you switch what a result looks like: a full date, just a month and day with no year, a day of the year shown as an ordinal, or a full date paired with a random time of day.
Four ways to generate a date
Use the mode selector under the result to choose the shape of each pick. Full date returns a complete calendar date with weekday and year. Month and day drops the year and returns something like April 12, which is handy for recurring events and birthdays where the year does not matter. Day only works as a random day generator: it returns a random day of the year as an ordinal, for example Day 103 of 366, alongside the matching month and day, so you can answer "what is a random day of the year" in one click. Date and time pairs a random calendar date with a random 24-hour time. The bulk count, weekday filter and no-duplicates options work in every mode, while the output-format and calendar-export controls apply to the full-date and date-and-time modes.
How to use the random date generator
- Choose a start date and an end date, or select a preset range.
- Optionally restrict to weekdays only, weekends only, or exclude specific weekdays.
- Set how many dates you want and whether duplicates are allowed.
- Pick your output format (ISO, US, EU, long form or Unix timestamp).
- Press Generate, then copy, download as CSV, or add a date to your calendar.
Use cases
Sampling and QA testing
Developers and analysts need realistic random dates to seed databases, test date-range filters, and check edge cases like leap days and month boundaries.
Fair scheduling
Assign a random review date, audit day, or check-in without anyone being able to argue the pick was chosen deliberately.
Writing and worldbuilding
Give a character a random birthday or set a story event on a plausible historical date without defaulting to the same few numbers.
Giveaways and prompts
Pick a random day of a promotion to award a prize, or draw a random date in history as a research or trivia prompt.
Weekday-only planning
Restrict to business days to schedule tasks that only make sense Monday through Friday.
Frequently asked questions
Is every date in the range equally likely?
Yes. We draw whole days from your range using rejection sampling over a cryptographic random source, which removes the modulo bias a naive approach would introduce.
Can I generate a random date between two specific dates?
Absolutely. Enter any start and end date and the generator only returns dates within that inclusive window.
Can I get only weekdays or only weekends?
Yes. Use the weekday filter to keep only business days, only weekends, or to exclude specific days of the week.
How do I generate many dates without repeats?
Set the quantity to 5, 10, 25 or 100 and turn off "allow duplicates" to get a set of distinct dates.
What formats can I export?
Copy or download dates as ISO 8601, US (MM/DD/YYYY), European (DD/MM/YYYY), long form, or Unix timestamps, and export a single date as an .ics calendar event.
Is a random birthday generator the same thing?
Yes. Set the range to a span of years (for example 1950 to 2005) and each generated date works as a random birthday.
